ACADEMICS + ACCOUNTABILITY
Introducing the Caucus candidates for District 65 &
115 School Board Election
The Lake Bluff School Caucus is excited to introduce
the five slated candidates for the April 9, 2013 School Board Election. The four
individuals for District 65 are Christine Letchinger, Richard Hegg, John
Marozsan and Julie Gottshall. The Lake Bluff candidate slated for District 115,
Lake Forest High School, is Todd Burgener.
The slate of candidates includes individuals with
backgrounds in education, business, law and finance. While these candidates
share the belief that academics and accountability are key to a strong school
district and community, they also bring their own perspective to the future
board.
Christine Letchinger expressed a strong interest in
building trust among parents, administrators, teachers and the community. Chris
has already indicated that making the school board function cohesively will have
a profound impact on strengthening the relationship between the Lake Bluff
Schools and the community. Her goal is to make Lake Bluff Schools the best on
the North Shore. Chris is currently an Associate Professor at the School of
Hospitality Management at Kendall College in Chicago. In addition, she is
completing her term as president of the Lake Bluff Village Board in April.
Richard Hegg has lived in the Lake Bluff area for over
35 years. His two children attended the Lake Bluff and Lake Forest schools and
he will soon have grandchildren in the district. Rich believes that an ongoing
commitment to education in Lake Bluff, along with fiscal responsibility, will
continue to bring new families to the area. Rich's background in business, along
with both of his parents being teachers, would help him bring a unique
perspective to the board.
John Marozsan is a retired educator and a developer of
textbooks and curricula materials. John represents the 77% of the community with
no children in the district, but a keen interest in keeping our schools strong.
John believes that Lake Bluff schools should be the best in the state, with kids
receiving a strong grounding in math, science, reading and writing. John is
currently serving on the Lake Bluff Library Board. In his free time, he tutors
4th graders at Whittier Elementary School in Waukegan.
Julie Gottshall, a twelve year resident of Lake Bluff
and library board member, currently has two children in the Lake Bluff Schools.
She is deeply committed to ensuring a strong educational program that challenges
and enriches all students. She believes that academic success must be achieved
with fiscal accountability and that it is the board's job to achieve both of
these goals. Julie is excited to work with Dr. Sophie to chart a steady course
for the district.
Raised in Lake Bluff,
Todd Burgener graduated from
LFHS in 1980 and he has two children at Lake Bluff Middle School. Todd was
elected to the LFHS school board in 2009 after having been appointed to a
vacated seat in 2008. He has been involved with recruiting and hiring Mike
Simeck as the new Superintendent, successful board negotiations with the
teacher's union and with helping navigate the District through the recent
challenging financial times. His goal in seeking re-election is focused on
supporting Mr. Simeck, in his efforts to achieve success and on ensuring that
the quality of Lake Forest High School programing remains high; doing both in an
economically responsible and accountable manner. As the sole incumbent candidate
seeking one of four openings on the Lake Forest High School Board, Todd's
experience will be invaluable.
Started by the League of Women's Voters, the Lake
Bluff School Caucus is a non-partisan volunteer organization that works to
represent the entire Lake Bluff community. The current candidates were chosen
based on their varied backgrounds and representation of the Lake Bluff
Community. For more information on the candidates or the Caucus, go to
